7 Swans a swimming

There might well be more swans a swimming around here by the end of the summer.

I spotted this pair today on a stretch of water adjacent to.the canal. They were both together at the other side of the water and as I looked closer I thought I could see what looked like nest building going on.

As I walked down to get a better view, Mr Swan came over to where I was stood and I decided to make a tactical retreat.

From a safer vantage point, I watched for a while as the other swan continued with the nest building. It will be interesting to watch this little family story evolve over the next few months.

I'll be back here to check progress and to try to differentiate the male and the female. Apparently the male has a bigger knob (on the base of his bill).
